Only when you click Generate, the image is sent to the AI provider to produce alt text — nothing else about your site, users, or content leaves your server. In the free plugin (and in bring-your-own-key mode), the image goes directly from your site to OpenAI or Anthropic using your own API key. In managed mode (paid), it’s sent through the elevenX proxy, which forwards it to the provider and meters your credits. Image data is used only to generate alt text and is not stored. If you never use AI generation, no image data is sent anywhere.
